Networking is fun
Before travelling to another country, contact the doula member association in the country you will visit and enquire about meeting at least one doula during your stay, for a cup of coffee. (Don’t forget to bring material from your association to this meeting.) What a great way to meet new people sharing a similar passion, to exchange ideas and experiences. Two doulas in Europe will go home happy knowing they work towards shared ideals, every day and night!

A mentor for pioneer doulas
The Finnish experience, October 2012
Valérie Dupin from France is going to mentor the few Finnish doulas in order to set up a small doula organization. More about their experience will follow.
The Slovenian experience, Part 1, autumn 2011
A few Slovenian doulas were thinking of forming a structured doula organization. But how would this work? They had several questions. The EDN could help: Barbara Strehler-Heubeck, from the GfG in Germany is a doula with a 20-year experience. She also trains new doulas. Barbara agreed to provide a mentoring function for the Slovenian doulas. By now, the exchange is based on e-mails: questions and answers go back on forward from Slovenia to Germany. It is also possible that they will meet personally to have a closer exchange. On this example, Valérie Dupin from the Doulas de France, is also available to assist more pioneer doulas from other European countries.
Part 2, March 2012
This is an-email the EDN received from Ana Pavec, doula in Slovenia with a first enthusiastic feedback!
“The fact that we joined the EDN clearly added the fuel to our motivation for joining efforts and do something in our doula group, since we have been meeting every month since October and we also decided to participate in the World Doula Week 2012 (22-28 March, for the first time everywhere in the world).
We set up a new website,www.doula-si.org, where Slovenian couples, birth practitioners and all who are interested in the topic can find more information about us, a description of who doulas are, a list of events during the WDW, the list of working doulas in Slovenia, recommended resources, and much more.
So, it seems the mentorship was a factor that contributed to our motivation and was a reason to do better in our relationship!”
