Doula UK (DUK) is the leading organisation for doulas in the UK, with a network of member doulas nearing 700 in number. Doula UK was founded in 2001.
Doula UK aims to:
Promote life-changing support for women in the childbearing year, regardless of circumstance
Nurture the doula community; protecting parents and health professionals
Advocate for better support for UK families
DUK has a list of nine approved Initial Doula Preparation courses. And membership of DUK is dependant on completion of one of these. At the beginning of 2004, we introduced a “Recognition Process” for doulas in the UK. This established a distinction between doulas who have simply registered with us, and those who are “recognised” as having attained a particular level of learned skills and experience.
For experienced doulas moving to the UK from overseas DUK offers a ‘route B’ option. Please get in touch to discuss how to join us.
DUK has an Access Fund which covers the expenses of Doula UK doulas volunteering to work with local clients in financial hardship, enabling those on a very low income or those referred from a charitable partner, to have the support of a doula.
