The Czech Doula Association (Česká asociace dul, ČAD) was founded in 2001. Since 2002 every year we organize doula trainings and offer support to our members. CAD strives to improve maternity and parenting services in the Czech Republic by spreading evidence based information about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting. We collaborate with parenting and midwives organizations.
During the 10 years period (2001 – 2011) ČAD doulas worked with 8000 women (in pregnancy and/or birth and/or postpartum) and accompanied 1500 births. We accompany mothers mainly in hospitals – in 2010 86% ČAD doula assisted births were in hospitals while 14% were homebirths.
In 2012 we have about 65 active members. Since 2002 about 160 women participated in our training.
Our basic doula training consists of 16 days attendance at workshops in addition to individual home study (list of literature) and written „homework“. Each student must accompany 3 mothers during pregnancy, birth and at least make 1 visit postpartum – this practical part must be consulted and approved by a personal consultant (an experienced doula). The doula student must submit a written report, feedback from mother and one birth professional for each birth. The training includes also attendance at 3 supervison groups. After successful work and final discussion with a committee the doula student is certified – certifikovaná dula ČAD (ČAD certified doula).
In addition ČAD organizes workshops, support groups or supervisions for all her members.
