The association Doulas in Austria was founded 2005, but the first doulas are active in Austria since 1994. One of the main goals of the Doulas in Austria association is to underline the special need of pregnant women, improve their conditions and promote the possibility of assistance before, during and after childbirth. A main concern right now is to make sure that doulas are allowed to work in Austria and get paid for their services.
The Doulas in Austria association trains to certified DONA and DiA doulas: an important part of the training is carried by DONA International. Continuous training, conferences and workshops are regularly organised. The training takes place in the Eltern-Kind-Zentrum (EKIZ) in Graz.
