Associação Doulas de Portugal
Founded in 2005, the Associação today has a thriving membership with around 150 people involved and the birth of over a hundred babies assisted by Portuguese doulas.
These babies have mostly arrived through hospital births, though there were also many born at home. Doulas in Portugal are largely engaged to assist during pregnancy and birth, with less emphasis on post-partum care and breastfeeding.
The Associação Doulas de Portugal is now focussing on longer training, fundraising, regional representatives and creating direct contact with hospitals.
