Doulas in Slovenia have existed since fall 2009, when the first birth doula workshop was organized by the Society Natural Beginnings and Debra Pascali-Bonaro from DONA International. Soon after, the Slovenian doula assosiation was formed but it later dissociated.
Association MY DOULA (Združenje MOJA DULA) was born after a long and difficult pregnancy and labor in 2014, after we failed to revive the Slovenian doula association.
Our aim is to support women and their families. The doulas of the association are professional doulas, supporting families during the pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. We aim to provide gentle and loving, but research-based support to our clients. The foundations of our association were adopted by the DONA International doula association as many of our doulas were trained by DONA International doula training.
In the past couple of years, we started our own MOJA DOULA training who is also based on Dona international training upgraded to our unique situation in our country, and upgraded by the mentoring system for the new doulas. Therefore, we have adopted and adapted the code of ethics as well as standards of practice from DONA International.
Our aim is also to support each other in our association to help each other grow and blossom in a way we support the families.
Besides that our aim is also to promote our work, to educate parents and through that educate the broader society about the importance of birth in order to help women recognise their options and empower them in birth. We have supported, listened to, held, hugged and provided information to many mothers and their families. It is our great pleasure to be a member of the European Network of Doulas.
