The Finnish Doula Association (Suomen Doulat ry) was established in January 2014. Finland has had doulas for around 20 years. First doulas were for single mothers and that image still carries on. Now there are several organisations, which would offer doula programs. The majority of the doulas are volunteers, but independent, professional doulas are making their way through. The national association is bringing together the different groups and makes the work of doulas known to a wider public. We plan to have an annual seminar for doulas together with midwives in order to enhance the development of our profession.
